Further funding is still to be secured. IGHT have applied to The Low Carbon Travel Transport Fund to make up the principal funding for the project which is expected to be announced at the end of March.
The access project includes numerous path upgrades and path constructions across the island. All paths will be sympathetic to Gigha’s landscape and help improve access to important sites on the island, including beaches and heritage assets. The project also includes the creation of signage and interpretation and further supports the strategy to reduce car borne visitors to the island by encouraging use of walking and cycle paths. Subject to the rest of the funding being secured, the project includes a Ranger post which will be advertised.
The full extent of this project will only proceed when outstanding funding applications are secured.
