A year in the life of...
Mick Tarts Year
1/07/2010 - Island Life
We are well past the longest
day, 21st June, where has the past six months gone? It does not seem that
long ago we welcomed the first swallow back to the Island, watching the
skeins of Geese passing over the Croft heading back to Greenland, and their
breeding grounds. June was a good month as far as the weather was concerned,
good for getting out in the boat, still waiting for the Mackerel too appear,
the farmers took full advantage of the good weather to get the silage harvested,
let’s hope it’s still good when it comes to the second cut,
which is usually the end of July or just into August.
What a contrast it has been, weather wise since July came upon us. Thursday
the 1st we had the first gales of the summer and have been unsettled since.
Still we have a lot to look forward to in the coming months, the raft race
is the next big event, perhaps Lukas and Remi might get to take part this
year, last year they arrived at the start line in the Saorsa our community
boat after their trip rowing around the Island.
Suppose it would be wise to have a ride down to my boat and see if that
needs bailing out.
